"Adversity Defeated !!!
Our SmartKits Journey came about due to the back-to-back “Flood” Events of 2022.
Flood … with that gorgeous elevation you may ask? Flood itself wasn’t our issue, it was the water influx driven by the constant torrential sideways rain. We knew we had to build it back better to overcome the trauma of 2022.
We envisaged a plan of attack, we just needed to implement it. Our plan involved swapping out our front door with a double hung window, and relocating the front door where the double hung window was. This required a deck to provide access to the new front door position, a deck which needed a flyover, neither of which we wanted to tie into the existing house. Along our long journey there were countless phone calls to suppliers, Council, Builders and the like to find a solution for our Build. We knew what we wanted to do, though we kept on hitting speed bumps and roundabouts it seemed we couldn’t get off.
Enter SmartKits!!!
Once we spoke with Mark at SmartKits, we knew we had the solution to our Build. Mark’s experience and customer service was second to none. Nothing was too big of an ask, and Mark also helped to brainstorm certain aspects of our design. Our Build was designed around the use of Modwood for it’s BAL Rating, and the team at SmartKits were more than happy to accommodate the design around the installation guides of Modwood decking. A perfect match too.
SmartKits were also the ONLY kit we found that would provide the deck AND roof engineering needed for our Council Building Application. Thanks to Mark and Toni from SmartKits for their endless help and support. What a breeze the Council Application was!!!
Although, due to our remote location, there were logistics issues which then led to product damage … though the team at SmartKits stood behind their product and supplier, and the supplier alike, to rectify the issues and then some.
Then came the Build … which for us wasn’t just about the deck with the reverse fly over. It was also about repairing inside our house too. Mick and Aaron from SmartKits Support were fantastic when we needed a little help with the deck with the reverse fly over, though overall we found the kit to be very user friendly.
Despite the logistics issues, we highly recommend SmartKits at every opportunity. An awesome team standing behind an awesome product, with Support just a phone call away. Thank you very much SmartKits for all your help!!!
We couldn’t be happier with the end result, which incorporates unplanned timber rails from a seasoned Ironbark log we slabbed from our property some years back. How amazing do they look!!!
The Build was FINALLY signed off 10 days ago and we can’t wait for some beautiful weather to sit here and take in the view. Until then we will welcome the rain.
It may not be the prettiest entry to this competition, though the practicality and smartness of this build I hope puts us in good contention … because we really need to take the next step and put a plunge pool off this deck now!
