#74 - Insulated Flyover Roof & High Set Deck Frame.

"We were looking to add on to our small house deck to give us a larger outdoor space to use and enjoy in the tropics. After several quotes from other companies, we found Smart Kits who were very helpful from the first enquiry and a far better option cost wise. My wife was skeptical that I could tackle this project on my own as a 66-year-old man with limited handyman experience. We decided to go ahead after watching the detailed instruction videos that gave us more confidence that I could complete this project on my own. The deck kit was constructed completely by me without any assistance, including hand digging the post footings! The deck kit went together seamlessly and then it was time to tackle the flyover roof. The posts and beams plus flyover brackets where easy to install again watching the instruction videos multiple times at each step as well as the detailed plans and helpful hints sheets provided. With seven x 7-meter insulated panels ready to install I enlisted the help of 3 friends and the local Electrician for Electrical works -downlights, fan and to complement our amazing new outdoor space my wife insisted it needed a Chandelier! We easily completed the install in a day. Final touches with the flashings were able to be completed by myself on my own (except for the front fascia and gutter which I have yet to install as I require some assistance due to length of gutter and height). Handrails and steps were purchased separately and installed as was the Merbau decking which is weathering currently and will soon be oiled. The project took me several months to complete, but we are now spending all our spare time out on the new space. Friends and family, all comment on how amazing it looks!
